1. Did you vote in your most recent applicable election? (If you're not yet old enough, do you plan to vote in the future?)

2. Have you ever protested or attended a march?

3. What political issue is the most important to you?

4. Are you a member of a party in your country? If so, which?

5. Do you ever plan to run for office?

UK Boys' Boarding Schools circa 1914

I tried Googling and got general info on curriculum, specific schools, and alumnae pages, but not the specific details I'm looking for.

My main character is an upper class 13-year-old boy who, due to long-term illness/frailty was educated by tutors at home, but is now being sent away to school. (Probably England, but since he lives in Yorkshire, I'm not completely opposed to it being Scotland if it turns out that there are significant differences in school experiences between the two countries and Scotland would work better for my character.)

1. Would most pupils begin classes in the fall term as is typical today? As in, would it be realistic for him to begin in September? Or was it more of a rolling admissions thing?

2. How far in advance would his father need to contact the school to enrol/register him? Would there normally be an entrance exam, or would it normally be, 'We accept anyone who can pay the fee, provided there's space'?

3. When it comes to letters to and from home, would there be any reasonable expectation of privacy, or would it be common for staff to read each piece of correspondence? Specifically, the boy has a female cousin of the same age with whom he's quite close. Would he get into any sort of trouble for writing to her or would her letters to him be delivered?

4. If she were in the vicinity of the school, would it be possible for them to meet under the auspices of a chaperone, or would that be totally unheard of?

5. How much would the outbreak of WWI impact him? I would guess that some of the younger teachers would have enlisted over the summer and some of the older boys talking about hoping it won't be over before they get a chance to get in it. Would that mean larger than expected classes?

Thanks so much!

Frustration....

This is a bit different because I'm not complaining about my meds, I'm complaining how difficult in the last couple of months it's been to GET THEM.
1st, it was filling delays. They were either out, on order or some other excuse but it never was more than a couple days without. Supply chain issues. Now, it's getting worse. This month I've run out of Cardiac, Diabetes and HIV meds(the latter still hasn't been filled. "Backordered"). Thankfully, the Diabetes meds that were out were the oral so I could titrate with my Insulin.
Last month, after going through Withdrawal symptoms when my Lyrica was out I started weaning myself off it. I'm down to once a day and no more withdrawal. I'd been doin my BP meds every other day until it got filled. Now, it's been almost a week since I've been out of 2 of my HIV meds. 1st time since the late 90's I've missed ANY doses.
A positive situation is that my Partner of 30 yrs is in a nursing home and our last cat died of Cardiac insufficiency so no one depends on me. Well, I feed the neighbor cats but I'm pretty sure they're indoor/outdoor cats so they'll be ok when I'm gone.
I used to joke that when Chuck and the cats were gone I'd just go on Comfort Measures but it looks like it might not be a choice.
Sincerely,
Pat

Ferris Wheel Press Review

Many of the stationery people that I follow on social media rave about these pens and ink from Ferris Wheel Press. I decided to get two fountain pens and a couple of bottles of ink in August.

I have some thoughts.

First of all - no complaints about the inks - they are amazing, gorgeous!

The first one is called Copper Carnival. A lovely brown with hints of glitter. Perfect for autumn journaling!

Next is Frozen Fortress. This was part of a line released under license from Warner Brothers when the last Superman movie came out. A gorgeous teal that looks amazing on my bullet journal paper.

I don't have as much positive to say about the two pens that I got.

The first is called Book of Botany in their Carousal pen line, for $90. It is very pretty, although it's a lighter green than showing here:

The barrel is aluminum and I got the fine nib. It writes very well, and feels great in my hand. My issue with this one is the converter. All of their pens come with a universal converter. However, the converter absolutely will not stay put on this pen. Every few days it works itself off the connector and I have to take the whole thing apart to push it back in place, getting ink all over my fingers in the process. I have it loaded with the Frozen Fortress above. Overall, the aggravation is manageable and I enjoy using this pen.

The second one is unusable. I suppose that's what I get for buying a $22 fountain pen (although my $25 Pilot Metropolitan has lasted for years and writes beautifully). This one is Lost in the Leaves, also in the Carousel line.

The barrel is plastic, and it comes with the same converter as the other pen. It also has a fine nib. I absolutely cannot get it to write. My original idea was to load it up with the Copper Carnival ink above. That has glitter, and I know that can sometimes clog pens. When it wouldn't write with that ink, I emptied it, soaked it in rubbing alcohol, cleaned it out, and tried another ink. This time was Windsor & Newton Calligraphy ink in sepia. Same result. Finally I loaded it up with Noodler's Ink in Feather, which I know damn well works because I have it in some of my other pens. No matter how much I tried, this was what I got with this pen:

There you have it - I highly recommend their inks. As for their pens, they have some for $180, maybe those would perform better. But I cannot recommend the Carousel line for the problems that both pens have. I will say that the packing is gorgeous and I couldn't bear to throw it away.
