I've got a copy at my mum's; I must remember to pick it up next time I go over there!
Awesome; it'll be nice to see you there too! :)
Basically some people started a very vicious bullying campaign and it waxed and waned for a very long time. Nothing the victim did or didn't do helped - of course, because it was just about the bullies getting their jollies. Of course lots of other people in the fandom spoke out against it, which simply led to the bullies gossiping about a "bully list" which, by an extraordinary coincidence, warned fans about the big bullies in the fandom... all people who'd spoken out against what was going on, none of whom prone to bullying. There was an element of targeting people with popular VC blogs, but I also saw newish fans try to speak up and start activities to try and bring the fandom together, and word would be spread to discourage others from participating.
It was educational to me in that it showed just how much trouble a relatively small number of people can cause if they're really, really dedicated to it, even if the majority are horrified and many people speak out against it. Certain aspects of Tumblr's user interface and culture exacerbated it, but it was the sort of thing that's gone on in fandoms forever. I'm just sorry it happened in ours and hurt so many friends of mine.
