I feel like they're consciously choosing to stay there out of love for both him and George, and because they know they're literally all he's got (and because they all have each other's backs). It's a messy, awful choice they've each/all made, but it feels very real to me.
That does make sense to me - and it does speak highly of Shaun and Georgia that everyone does stay. I also agree that it would've been interesting to hear more about Dave... that's the other interesting thing about that team: you feel that there are complex relationships between all members, like a spider's web, rather than just a wheel radiating out from each book's main character to all the secondary characters. I also like the thing you mention about how those complexities only come to light for us gradually in some cases - Feed naturally focused on George's friendship with, and loss of, Buffy and that understandably means her relationship with Becks is more in the background - that, and the fact that their working relationship was different from what that of Becks and Shaun has had to become following George's death.
And OMG YES re: Feed and Shaun/Georgia; if you would never even think of that kind of thing, you wouldn't have to, but if you're open to seeing it then the clues are absolutely everywhere: you've already mentioned things I didn't pick up on at the time! I remember Shaun's blog post about how important it is to find someone who'll make all the crap worthwhile (or something like that), and he has this line, "I've found my person," where it's really obvious that he's framing his relationship with his sister in the way people normally do a committed romantic relationship, and that for me was one of the first things that really made me question the situation. That, and their sheer emotional self-sufficiency - not that they don't have deep friendships with others, but that neither of them behaves as if there's anything lacking in their life... besides, say, more ammo. They're not seeking because they've got each other.
I can feel my resolve slipping further re: Blackout... :D
