I've heard of The Shining Girls but haven't read it. It definitely sounds intriguing, although I'm not sure I have the brain for too much graphic violence either (it's easier to see than read, perhaps?)
I'm so curious to read The Casual Vacancy but not enough to move it to the top of my To Read pile, which is a small leaning tower at the moment, and may never be anything but.
