The Friday Five for 3 October 2025: Senses

These questions were originally suggested by [livejournal.com profile] ardnaid.

1. Do you ever wonder if the way you see things visually aren't how other people see them?

2. What kind of sounds are the most annoying?

3. When walking through a store, do you shop with your hands by touching/feeling the texture of things?

4. If you could only smell three scents for the rest of your life, what would they be?

5. What sorts of things do you savor when eating them?

San Francisco Area

Our trip had ended in San Francisco because I was there to attend the memorial of a friend's mother. The cemetery was a beautiful place.

What would the smell of a subtropical monsoon climate zone be like?

Hello everyone!

I am writing a oneshot essentially set in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. My character is so surprised and overwhelmed by what he is seeing that I am introducing his senses one by one, but I couldnt quite imagine what it would smell like being in his position.

I know its quite humid, so thats probably the bulk of the experience, but are there any other, more subtle undertones I could include to make the scene feel more alive?
Even if you havent been to the exact location, any experience in a subtropical, humid climate would already be quite helpful.

Thank you!

These questions were originally suggested by [livejournal.com profile] bricksonbricks.

1. Do you consider yourself to be a good housekeeper? Why or why not?

2. Are there any household chores that you enjoy doing? If so, what and why?

3. Which household chore frustrates/angers you the most?

4. When doing household chores, what do you do to make them seem less of a "chore"?

5. Which chore do you find yourself doing most often, and why?

Petition against Digital ID cards

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/730194

Aside from the privacy and surveillance issues, digital ID is currently being promoted as a way of expanding the "hostile environment" and requiring that people carry ID to prove they are in the country legally before accessing any servces, and the transphobes are already campaigning to ensure that digital ID has to record your assigned gender at birth so you can be forced to produce it in order to use the toilet. It's all kinds of bad.

Today's Adventures

Today we went to the Autumn Fest in Marshall. It was an evening event, and the day had cooled off considerably, so it was quite pleasant. We were lucky to miss the rain there -- it rained a bit at home and we drove through several showers. This event continues on Saturday and Sunday if you want to catch it, and it is well worth attending if you're in Illinois this weekend looking for something to do.
