It was difficult to find a book with a female lead in 1974, without going back to The Secret Garden era, which was written in a style that hindered enjoyment for a modern 9 year old. This is why we, as a class, liked Greenwitch very much. When you consider that the alternative 'adventure' books were Enid Blyton with the tomboy George character, Greenwitch is a breath of fresh air.

I bought The Whitby Witches trilogy by Robin Jarvis, in the 90s, for my daughter because the main character has the same name, Jennet, and we hadn't seen her name in print before in a children's book. We thoroughly enjoyed those, if you haven't tried them. A similar style of story to TDIR sequence but based on Whitby folklore rather than Arthurian.
